Heavy rain and snowfall lashed jammu and Kashmir,Himachal and parts of uttarakhand on Saturday due to western Disturbance, Bringing down the mercury in the hill states.
Srinagar witnessed snowfall in November for the first time since 2009. “In the last two decades, it was only the fourth time that it has snowed in Srinagar in November with 2009, 2008, 2004 bring the earlier instances, “ an official of MeT Department said.
Reports of hearvy snowfall were received in various District and major town of the valley. Highway connecting valley with rest of the country , has been closed for vehicular traffic due to heavy snowfall. Operations at Srinagar international airport stopped with several late afternoon and evening flights cancelled. The snowfall has set in cold wave like condition in the valley.All Weather stations Witnessed a drop of 10 degree celcius from the normal day temperature for this time of the year.
Maximum temperatures were markedly below normal 5.1 degree celsius or less at a few places over Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh and at isolated places in Uttarakhand. Shimla received heavy rainfall on Saturday.
There was fresh snowfall in higher reaches of Uttarakhand- Badrinath-one inch, Kedarnath-2.5inch, Gangotri-2 inches.
